Chub - It is famous for the fact that it can be caught by almost any method and with almost all lures. Of the natural ones, he likes both those of vegetable and animal origin. He loves fruits (cherries), will take on corn, peas, wheat, dough or puffs, as well as on white and red worms. It often grabs insects from the surface of the water, so anglers also catch it on grasshoppers or flies. Artificial insects are just as effective - the fly method is not reserved only for salmonids, it can also be used to catch other fish with great success, including just chub. And since it manifests predatory instincts, it is also caught by spinning. Here the best lures are small spinners and floating, low-lying crankbaits, imitating not only fish, but also insects - beetles, cockchafers, etc.

Like the asp, the chub is a river fish. It lives in both large (Bug, Vistula, Oder, Narew) and small rivers, including in mountainous sections, as well as in some canals. It sticks to the current, likes well-oxygenated water, and feeds mainly in the surface zone. It is very suspicious, so it is necessary to approach fishing for it with great caution. It is advisable to move quietly and to wear an outfit that blends in with its surroundings. Some anglers attribute great cleverness to the chub. Legends used to circulate that wily old chubs first knock cherries off the hook with their tail (which looks like a bite), and only then eat them. However, this is probably only an angler's fantasy, although it must be admitted that the chub is indeed intelligent in its own way. This is evidenced, for example, by the aforementioned distrust that is inherent in caution.

A good solution for chub fishing is a water ball - a transparent, invisible to the fish large float, floating on the surface, but in part filled with water, the weight of which allows casting far from the shore, where the chub does not see the angler and is thus calmer.

The protective size of the chub is 25 centimeters. The protective period of this fish does not have, but it should be taken into account that in May and June it undergoes spawning (ten thousand - two hundred thousand eggs), and limit fishing for it in these months. It takes very well in July, August and September. Outside of Poland, it can be caught all over Europe except in its extreme western and northern parts and in Asia Minor. The official Polish PZW record (3.71 kilograms, 2008) belongs to Piotr Wrana, while the largest chub in the "Polish record in fish length" competition (63 centimeters, 2003) was caught by Dariusz Mrongas. PZW medal standards: 2, 2.5 and 3 kilograms. "Angler's World" medal norms: 50, 55 and 60 centimeters.

Rowan - It is a river fish, although sometimes it is also found in flowing reservoirs, canals and old river beds. In ponds and ponds in parks, its charming ornamental variety, called the golden orpha, is bred. It inhabits the waters of eastern and northern Europe, except for parts of Scandinavia, as well as a part of Asia.

It is quite easy to confuse it with other fish - chub and roach. Such mistakes mainly happen to fishing rookies. However, several details allow you to distinguish these fish well. The main differences between the ide and the chub are a slightly less slender body, a slightly concave lower edge of the anal fin (in the chub it is rounded and convex) and finer scales (if just looking at the fish is not enough, you can count the scales along the lateral line; the ide has from fifty-six to sixty-one, while the chub has from forty-four to forty-six). However, there is one major difference between the weir and the roach - the weir does not have the red iris of the eye, which is a characteristic feature of the roach. The second difference is similar to that of the chub: the roach has larger scales than the roach (the number of its scales along the lateral line is from forty to forty-four).

The chub resembles the ide not only in appearance. These fish live in a similar environment, grow to similar sizes (hence the same protective size - 25 centimeters; the protection period for the ide is also absent), their food is also similar, and thus the lures with which to tempt them. The ide, like the chub, will not disdain white and red worms, chironomid, pinks, dough, bread, puffs or corn, and when it comes to spinning lures - small spinners and crankbaits. However, it does not feed as often in the surface zone as the chub, hence the lower popularity of fishing it with insects. It also begins spawning earlier than the chub - in April (it finishes in May). It lays its eggs (from twenty thousand to one hundred and twenty thousand eggs) in places with a calmer current or where the water does not flow at all (in bays).

The similarity between the weir and the roach is probably the reason why no one has been able to break the official Polish roach record (2.2 kilograms) dating back to 1963 for so long. Since roach is unlikely to reach such a size, there are rumors that the fish in question was a roach. The same is true in another case - it is said that the fish, which for some time was listed in the tables as the Polish record for chub, was in fact amur.

The official Polish record for the ide is 5.10 kilograms. It belongs to two anglers (they are Jan Zbiegień, the record in 1973, and Miroslaw Królikowski, 1990), since both caught an ide of the same weight. The Polish record in the competition "Polish record in fish length" is 82 centimeters (Jan Zbiegień, 1973). PZW medal norms - 2, 2.5 and 3 kilograms, "Angler's World" medal norms - 45, 50 and 55 centimeters.
