The pike-perch (Latin: Stizostedion lucioperca) is a relative of the perch and looks a bit like it, but has a more elongated body, less pronounced bars on the sides, and its lower fins are not red. It also reaches a much larger size, growing up to several kilograms. The Polish record is 15.60 kg. It was set in 1980 by Waclaw Biegan, who also caught the largest pike in Poland. PZW medal standards are 5, 7 and 9 kilograms, and "Angler's World" medal standards are 75, 90 and 100 centimeters.

It is found throughout Europe, excluding the area below the Alps and the northern part of Scandinavia. A great number of individuals inhabit the Danube and its tributaries. It was introduced artificially into British waters. It also lives in parts of Asia. It inhabits mainly large rivers, dammed reservoirs, deep lakes and brackish, coastal marine waters. Its oxygen requirements are quite high. It spawns in the second half of April and May, which is the last month of the protective period of this predator, which lasts from January 1. In the nest, quite primitive, the female lays several hundred thousand eggs, and in extreme cases even a million. Such a large number is due to the fact that these eggs are not very resistant to external factors, a lot of eggs are wasted, although for two weeks (that is, until hatching) the male vigilantly guards them, attacking any aquatic organism that poses a potential threat to his offspring.

The food of the pikeperch is, of course, fish (roach, bleak, gudgeon, ruffe, perch, in offshore waters smelt). When hunting, it primarily uses its excellent eyesight, and swallows its prey from the tail. It also occasionally eats insects and their larvae and frogs. It can be caught at any time of the day, including at night, as it feeds quite intensively then. It is sometimes a bycatch during night catfish hunting, although many spinning anglers treat it as the main target for escapades after dusk. As for the months, it takes best in June, October and November.

Sandpiper is valued more by many predator hunters than pike, especially since it is more difficult to catch. Its outsmarting requires experience and craftsmanship. To succeed, it is best to use large rubbers, roosters and elongated crankbaits, while from natural lures, live and dead fish will be good. Look for zander, first of all, near the bottom (preferably gravelly), although sometimes it also feeds in the other layers of water. In rivers, magnificent specimens can be caught near bands and the tops of heads. The protective size of the zander is 50 centimeters, while the catch limit is two pieces per day. Supporters of the "no kill" rule are probably not happy about the fact that zander has great culinary qualities. It is widely recognized as a delicacy, they serve it in many restaurants, and cookbooks are full of various recipes for its preparation.
