Description

Suzuki DF20AES 02002F Combustion Engine

DF20A, 15A and 9.9B are the world's first four-stroke outboards in their power classes to feature a fuel injection system that does not require a battery. By developing smaller and lighter components for the new fuel injection system (compared to those used on earlier systems), Suzuki engineers have managed to build the lightest four-stroke engines in the 14.7 kW (20 hp)/11.0 kW (15 hp) classes. In addition, the use of the tried-and-tested Suzuki Lean Burn Control, has ensured extremely low fuel consumption and low emissions throughout the operating range.

Lean Burn Control System - Suzuki four-stroke engines are rightly renowned for their fuel efficiency and technology that allows you to sail further for less.

In the DF20A/15A/9. 9B portable Suzuki outboard engines there are four versions with electrically controlled yaw mechanism - the DF20AT and 9.9BT with remote control and the DF20ATH and 15ATH with tiller.

Suzuki uses a number of its advanced technical solutions in 4-stroke engines to ensure lower emissions and lower fuel consumption, thereby meeting the terms of European Parliament and Council Directive 2003/44EC. The Suzuki has been awarded a three-star rating by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), a clean air agency.

Introduced for the first time on DF90/80/70A engines, the innovative Lean Burn Control System monitors engine performance and operating conditions to determine in advance the amount of fuel required to operate the engine under the given conditions. This enables it to deliver a leaner fuel-air mixture. The system ensures extremely low fuel consumption throughout the operating range. It is fitted to 14 models from the DF9.9B to the flagship DF300A, providing users with the lowest fuel consumption at all speeds.

DF20A/DF15A/9.9B are the first outboards in their classes to feature the fuel injection system. In designing them, the focus was on reducing size and weight as much as possible. All new components, which include the high-pressure circuit fuel pump, fuel cooler, fuel vapour separator, injectors and the new throttle valve, have been designed to be as small and light as possible. The engine, thanks to a specially developed design, can be mounted in areas with limited space. The system does not need a battery - another innovative solution, used for the first time for units in the 14.7 kW (20 hp), 11.0 kW (15 hp) and 7.3 kW (9.9 hp) classes. The conventional fuel injection system requires electricity stored in the battery to operate, giving in return faster starting, smoother running and quicker acceleration in all conditions. The Suzuki system offers all this, but without the use of a battery.

The DF20A/15A models owe the title of lightest in their class to a complete redesign of parts and components aimed at creating the smallest and lightest components possible. As a result of this work, Suzuki engineers have built an outboard engine that, even when equipped with an electrically controlled yaw system, weighs less than any other 4-stroke engine in the class 14.7 kW (20 hp)/11.0 kW (15 hp).

In addition to lower fuel consumption, the injection system facilitates engine starting, which is more reliable in almost all conditions. Although our carburettor-fuelled engines are some of the finest available on the market, the fuel injection system makes them run even smoother and have less vibration.

The engines are equipped with a starter designed to require little force when starting. Combined with the fuel injection system, this makes starting the engine extremely easy.

Suzuki protects the external surfaces of the outboard engine from the pernicious effects of corrosion with a specially developed anti-corrosion coating. The coating is applied directly to the aluminium surface, ensuring the best possible adhesion to the substrate and providing effective protection against corrosion, while protecting the external aluminium surfaces from the effects of salt water.
